About
Insolent Retinue.
A shared curiosity.
A willingness to play.
Something worth discovering.
Insolent Retinue brings actors together through practical workshops in improvisation for interactive theatre and events.
Founded by David Claridge, we offer a place to practise between productions, work with other performers and develop confidence in unscripted encounters.
CREATOR / INTERACTIVE THEATRE PRACTITIONER
David Claridge

David brings around fifteen years of experience in murder mystery and immersive performance, working with fellow actors and audiences in situations where conversations can take unexpected turns.
He created Insolent Retinue to share that experience and continue developing his own practice alongside other actors.
As facilitator, he introduces situations and challenges, then helps performers reflect on what happened and what they might try next.
“Know the story. Know your character.
Then let go.”
COMPANY ADMINISTRATOR
Joanne Claridge

Joanne helps keep Insolent Retinue running - bringing together her experience as a performer with the organisation needed behind the scenes.
As a performer, she understands the vulnerability of being asked to make choices in the moment, work without a conventional script and trust the people you're playing alongside.
She looks after the practical arrangements, helping sessions run smoothly so performers can concentrate on the work.
"Good training needs room for unpredictability.
Running it shouldn't."
What's in a name?
A little Shakespeare. A little rebellion.
The name Insolent Retinue began with Shakespeare. While performing in King Lear, David encountered a phrase that refused to leave him:
The company we are building.
We want people to enjoy returning: to familiar faces, new collaborators and another chance to practise.
Bring your experience, contribute generously and help shape the company as it grows.
